There was a time in Nigeria when hardworking rappers were getting the attention they deserved. Once upon a time in the 9ja rap game, if you were good and talented, you would be recognised. Not anymore. Nowadays, we hear the same things over and over again... Mostly from the same set of rappers.
Mr. Olamide. Are you a rapper? We don't even know what you do anymore... Yeah, you dey get money, we know... #STALE. I listened to that Local Rappers by Reminisce ft. Olamide and Phyno, and I sensed so much happiness in their voices when they were saying 'PUNCHLINE O JAWO MO, TALKING ILL O JAWO MO' (Meaning: Being dope doesn't get you paid, punchlines don't get you paid) Why wouldn't they be happy? At least they're richer than their counterparts who put out good music, other than the kpangolo they put out. Music is getting empty generally, but Nigerian rap music? That one haff empty tey tey, and rappers like Olamide claiming 'street' did that to us. Where's the Olamide of Eni Duro, Apa Ti Jabo... Even up till Ilefo Illuminati... Now, the guy just makes noise and gets paid #9JA. I'm sure Olamide can't even freestyle shii. Since even his Jimmy Jatt Jump Off freestyle sounds like it was rehearsed. Freestyle dey get chorus? No matter how dope you are. So immediately being dope stopped getting people paid, people like these just became millionaires churning out wack music. NO LELE. Shout outs to Vector, MI, Terry Tha Rapman, OD, Pherowshuz, Cyrus Tha Virus, Yung6ix, and all the other rappers working hard to put out dope music every now and then.
Reminisce... for all the love I have for him, disappointed me by also saying stuff about being dope not getting people paid. YOU GUYS SOLD RAP MUSIC OUT FOR WHAT? These guys think you can't be 'street' and 'dope' at the same time... Who remembers MODENINE's verse on DJ. Jimmy Jatt's STYLEE? Now tell me how that wasn't street. That song was so street, and MODENINE showed why he's king. He blended too well, and these other rappers don't see that as a step to follow, rara o, they wanna be 'street' and WACK. But wait, in street-lingo, doesn't being STREET also mean you are DOPE and the streets support you for being DOPE? So help me ask these LOCAL RAPPERS their own meaning of STREET fah. Amongst them all, who could be more STREET than DaGrin? Now tell me he wasn't STREET and DOPE at the same time? Why are our LOCAL RAPPERS these days finding it hard to take a cue from that guy? He's been dead for a while now and his music still makes sense. Oya notify if you still wish to listen to Olamide's song from 4 years ago... Anybody? 9ja Rap Music has gotten so empty and the wack ones are overshadowing (can I use that word?) the dope ones... So this makes them think they're dope too. No sirs, you're not.
Phyno, I don't even know what to say. I listen to Phyno with open mind cos that's the best since I don't understand up to 10 Igbo words. And I'm always satisfied... But ever since he got really really really close with Olamide, his music has been sounding somehow watered down to me, but I can't really say much cos of the language barrier. But I'd beat my chest any day any that Phyno is cool.
Shout outs to Blaise and Eva too. The only 2 femcees in Nigeria. Past and present. Go and argue with your landlord.
And once again, shout outs too all the dope 9ja rappers who aren't jumping on the bandwagon of being WACK and calling it DOPE.
Dear LOCAL RAPPERS, if you were really dope, let us be the judge of that. Not you.

Olamide: StreetOT Album Review

This time, I pick up my Golden pen... Wait, scratch that, I typed this.
Olamide dropped StreetOT 14-11-14. and before 10am, it was available for free downloads, an album worth $9.99 on iTunes.
But Mr. Olamide's management choices ain't really none of my business.
I won't even lie, immediately I saw it online, I scratched the 'I'm gonna buy that album' thought off my mind. What's the point?
Prior to the release, I already heard Awon Goons Mi, and obviously, my ringtone for a while, Story For The Gods *dances shoki*
Back to the matter, this is a modest offering from Olamide, like all his previous albums, you can listen to this with friends, if you don't get bored easily, you can listen to it alone too, its such a cool album.
Tight lyrics, though there's nothing said we haven't heard before, mostly from Olamide himself, but at least it was aii, moderate features, this album shows some people you don't have to feature people on each and every track before you can make sense.
An igbo guy, or hausa guy might disagree, but isn't music a universal language?
Tho recently, we have been wondering if Olamide now sings more than he raps, but at least, his fans don't mind.
The intro was cool, I think Pasuma really balled on that, no need to form tush, the fuji feel on the intro was apt and onpoint. StreetOT.
Skelemba, ft. DonJazzy could have done better, I didn't feel it much.
Blood Money, Ya-Wa, Hood Rap, Real MVP were "just there" too.
Moving on to Hustle, Loyalty, And Respect ft. Reminisce, I listened to this one first cos Reminisce is on it, and he didn't disappoint. They both didn't, its a nice track.
Prayer For Client... I think Olamide could have done more with that beat, I'd give it a 60%. Olamide, we know you hustle before your money completes, no need to mention it on every track about money, THANK YOU.
Batifeori (As we want am)... This was different, but being different didn't make it useful. Where should I even start? The lyrics were not IT abeg, you're onpoint like DECIMAL? Okay. The chorus didn't even correlate with the lyrics. Hian.
Bang!!! This one got me, there's something about that beat that gets you moving and bumping your head, Chinko Ekun's verse was great. And shey someone will tell Lil' Kesh to stop screaming Ahhhh before his verses? It was cool for a while, now we're tired. Thank you.
1999!!! Hian, no comment. Wack chorus, if there must be a song, feature someone for that sir, its not by force you sing it yourself. You're a record label C.E.O., act like one.
By the time I got to Falila Ketan, I was already tired, bored, and already drew my conclusions. I won't listen to this more than twice. No need really.
Maybe the other tracks would be nice, but I really couldn't keep my hand off the "NEXT" button. #Boring.
Maybe this one dropped too soon, maybe it was rushed, I really don't have an idea.
Mr. Olamide also followed the norm and the album was all about the money he's getting and the ladies he's sleeping with, AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT.
So overall, here goes my ratings

MI: THE CHAIRMAN ALBUM REVIEW.

When my CD guy saw me from afar, he knew exactly what I was coming for, the last time he saw such pace on my legs, such expectation in my eyes, was 2010.
The year my former favourite rapper released an album last.
I had given up, and shifted my love for rap to another rapper... Or rappers, to provide the kind of joy I get from rap music.
I had seen so many tweets, online hypes, and heard so many stuff on radio about this album, it was an awesome feeling. MI is back b**ches.
So the guy ran into his shop and brought what I came for. MI's The Chairman album. I was so happy, like a kid in front of a Christmas tree, with the foot of the tree filled with wrapped gifts.
I didn't even bother about the boring album art. Isn't that a norm in Nigeria?
Forget kpali, the contents of this album would never be as boring as the album cover.
It reminded me of the album art of MI2: The Movie. Though, that one was below par on my scale of 1 to MI, it was kinda cool in its own way.
Four years ago, the album wasn't as awesome as I expected. This one isn't either.
This one was MI, past his prime.
This one sounded like an album that was done in 6 months. Wait... 6 months? Let's make it 4. No, Let's make it 2 months. Oya, 1 month jale jale.
Right from the intro... MI doesn't do intros like this. Who remembers Talk About It intro? That Yar'adua stuff. Or My favourite rap album intro of all time, MI2: The Movie's intro. Action film. I remember cramming that one from beginning to the end with Bode my best friend.
This intro was not as hilarious. I didn't feel it.
Then Track 2 and 3, Oga MI kept ranting about the 'Diaris God o, all the blood they're sharing' and 'he never experrerit' joke. Trynna hit a punchline with it. Hian. We've seen enough of all these on Twitter already sir. Tell us something new.
Its gonna get better, I thought. THIS IS MI'S ALBUM, I thought, AN ALBUM I WAITED FOUR YEARS FOR, I kept thinking.
Right from Track 4 to 7, nothing spectacular. It sounded like an upcoming rapper's album. Track 8 (Brother) was emotional tho'. But I didn't buy this album for emotions na. I BOUGHT IT TO HEAR PLEEEEENTY ROCK-HARD PUNCHLINES NAAAAA.
But no, Uncle MI didn't gimme that.
But why features come plenty like this na?
75% of the artistes featured on this album did awesomely well. They covered up for my Uncle's flaws pretty well. No lele.
But, I'd say this, if we combined only MI's lyrics in this album, it would be the wackest ever. So, on behalf of my Uncle MI, I say a massive thank you to all the featured artistes. This album was average because you guys were in it. If not for you guys, it woulda been a zero... Okay, let's not be harsh. It woulda been a 2. Or a 4. See, I'm not even sure. I'm sure a heartbreak of this magnitude would do same to you.
So on my 3rd listen, I gave up. the next time I'd hear this album is if my phone (which is always on shuffle) plays it for me, and my hands are far from where the NEXT button is.
*plays HUMAN BEING ft. TUFACE and SOUND SULTAN*. Wait, this one gave the album 2 out of the 4 marks I gave it. Oh! Sorry, 5 marks... TUFACE is on it fah.

2 KINGS 1 BEEF (OLAMIDE VS YUNG6IX) BY @BADDESTDJTIMMY

EXCLUSIVE:
The Reports and evidence I have gathered states that there is bad blood between Olamide (King badoo) and Yung6ix (King of the south). Trouble started when Olamide told yung6ix not to release the hit single BEFORE I GO BROKE because he just released his album – Baddest Guy Ever Liveth. In fact Olamide wanted Yung6ix to wait for at least 4 months before releasing the song because he wanted to promote his BGEL album. Meanwhile in Yung6ix’s camp, he was already on a club tour and his fans where getting impatient for the hit single to drop so it got released after waiting for a while.
Olamide did not take this well so he quickly posted a look alike of Yung6ix on his Instagram page with the caption “B**** don’t kill my vibe”. But before then, sources close to Olamide say that he was angry when Yung6ix tweeted he was “THE BEST RAPPER IN NIGERIA”. Olamide was referring to Yung6ix in “For example Remix” when he said “E ye pariwo lori twitter” // “Won da yin mo ni musihin”// “E so oyinbo bi Drake” // “Kilode ti e mu BET wale”. There is also strong evidence to prove that Yung6ix changed some Verses of the song “Before I Go Broke” after sending the data to Olamide to voice on it. With lines like “Even olamide know say I be Badoo” ,”I am not here to judge u”, “They try to walk in my shoes”. King6ix also cut out a large part of Olamide’s rap and usual ajasa (Listen to the outro before Yung6ix shouted OTEE ON THE BEAT). Now just recently, Yung6ix released his newest video NOTICE(ONE TWEET), he added the BEFORE I GO BROKE Song to the video and he intentionally cut off olamide’s verse.
This is just the beginning of the battle between 2 young, gifted and equally balanced rappers, both are doing all they can to remain relevant in the industry and want to prove they are no push overs. Now while some music lovers and analysts see all this as a publicity stunt, some say it is a show of ego while others believe Olamide is starting to show us his true character. He recently took shots at popular blogger Linda Ikeji for blogging about his girlfriend being pregnant. I personally think he over reacted because she never reported that he was caught with cocaine or was beaten and disgraced at a party which would have been the most annoying. PHYNO: NO GUTS, NO GLORY. (THE ALBUM REVIEW BY @BADDESTDJTIMMY

TO start with, I listened to the full album up to 20 times and I can proudly say I am not biased with my review of this album and I must confess that the production,concept and delivery of this album is above average but i have some concerns. 
Firstly, 90% of the songs were performed in Igbo language except the artiste he featured that sang in English language. I like Phyno's concept of trying to represent the East(Igbo language), but how many people actually understand the language in Nigeria especially Lagos state where all artiste believe if you can blow here then you are made. Unlike Yoruba language, most people  have an idea of what the artiste is trying to say and it sounds pleasant to the ears like the late Dagrin and King badoo Olamide. If you notice, even 2face Idibia, Timaya and co sing in their native language but they still interprete in English so we can get their point.
Secondly, this is Phyno's first album (if I am correct) and I think he should have done more songs on his own rather than featuring so many artiste on every track because I know he is creative enough to do that. Take a look at his hit track - GHOST MODE, Olamide always take the shine and people believe King badoo murdered the track, even when they are on stage.  
Also, all the songs on the album sound the same, it seems the same producer produced all the songs and it will take someone with attentive ears to really spot out  the difference in this album. I also made sure I played the album  where so many music lovers (which included Dj's, Music producers and Phyno's fans) are and i noticed they got bored after listening to it for less than 10 minutes.
In conclusion, the album is worth buying, downloading and playing in your car. Phyno has to know that he just started his career and he can only improve, work hard and give the people what they want to listen to. Deliver your flow in Igbo language but try to merge English and Pidgin with it so we can hear your punch lines, metaphors and the message you are trying to pass across !!
I RATE THIS ALBUM 3 STARS out of 5 STARS AND IT IS A 6/10 PROJECT.

OLAMIDE: HIP-HOP OR COMMERCIAL GLORY?

Well, ever since Emi Duro, I didn't hear any lyrically deep song from Olamide until Ilefo Illuminati and maybe VOTS. He was great on some features. But in songs he did himself, one thing is obvious, Olamide is a rapper, not a good hip-hopper. All his songs are 'street' in a commercial way. And that's why he will never win any award that has to do with lyrical depth. The late DaGrin will forever be mentioned in posts like his because of one thing; he also had a 'street cred' behind his stories, and he did well to fuse it with HipHop. A recipe Olamide hasn't learned to add to his game. He might be hitting it big because of the commercial value of his songs right now, but he will not be recognised in a HipHop oriented environment. And in the long run, he won't be as accomplished in the HipHop arena as the likes of Mode9, Terry Tha Rapman, MI, Vector, and others.  They might not be as rich as him, but all HipHop fans worldwide know one thing for sure; true hip hop is not about the money.

 Yes, what first came to mind was Pherow's verse on Cyrus' SWATS AND BLOODHOUNDS. Epic.

I hadn't heard the Nig**z fear song on which Pherow featured Yung6ix.

But after hearing Cyrus' Black Flag, I had to go get that song. 

I dunno what Pherow was thinking, letting Yung6ix take a swipe at Cyrus like that. That Yung6ix boy sef, Yung6ix started this, but I don't think he's gonna have the balls to finish this. Cyrus' bars must have scared the hell out of that boy :(

Pherow has always been a great lyricist. And his team is strong.

If this ends up becoming a team thingy, Terry Tha Rapman, ModeNine, OverDose are all gonna be on Pherow's side.

On Cyrus' side, Lord Vino, AQ, and some great guys too.

Its Cyrus Tha Virus VS. Pherowshuz aka Pherow The Great.

Most blogs, reports, and sites I saw all had the same question. IS THE KING BACK?

To me, he never left.

ModeNine is the rapper your favorite rapper dare not to call out. Except if he's still learning.

Been doing things underground for a while, but he still commands the loyalty of Nigerian rap's biggest names.

One sentence. MODENINE IS KING.

I first heard Let It Go over 7months ago. And I was blown away. Now after gaining massive air-play on radio, the video got released a couple of days back. One Word: BANGING!!!

This song is just awesome, but its not surprising, I've never doubted Mode for once. Yes, I'm a big fan.

And with the rumors floating around about a Let It Go Remix with MI, IcePrince, D'banj, Reminisce, Terry Tha Rapman and Others, MODE is definitely pulling out all the stops.

But for a big fan like me, *rubs palms* Let The Massacre Start.

And if you still have reservations about MODE. Please, LET IT GO.

SERIKI: Back with a blast.

I love when artistes, after been written off, come back strong. Its kinda beautiful proving the critics wrong. In Seriki's case, sadly, I was a critic when I posted my 'talent on the decline' article on him.

But as a fan of progress, I'm actually happy with his latest effort 'Eleda Masun' ft. Allan B.

'Eleda Masun' actually means 'My Creator, don't dull'. Lol.

This track is actually a classic. The track is so Seriki. The normal flows, the normal Seriki kinda lyrics, pulling punches from outta thin air. And the beat? AWESOME. A great way to bounce back. I'm guessing this is gonna get some airplay around the nation.

   The street poet as he's fondly called is one of Abuja's finest up and coming act and has continued to thrill many with his exceptional flows since he dropped his first street banging single titled 'Shut It Down' that was posted on this blog.

Tho' I haven't given this tracks a listen, but based on his first work, I vouch for this guy. Awesome its gonna be.

THE WAR OF TIMES: OLAMIDE NOW OR DA-GRIN THEN

When Da-Grin died, we all thought all was lost for the Yoruba rap scene. Even with the likes of Lord of Ajasa, Reminisce, and some under-G names, the industry felt Da-Grin's death more than any other, before or after. Shortly before this period, Olamide was already doing his thing, tho' very low on the scale of 1 to Da-Grin. His name was already "bubbling under". 

From my own opinion, I think Da-Grin left a pretty big shoe to fill. Olamide on the other hand came through. He's been awesome. Hits after hits. features after features. Bangers after bangers. Mad punchlines here and there. Da-Grin left a pretty big shoe. True. But..........................

Methinks Olamide has surpassed Da-Grin's exploits. I know we all miss Da-Grin, I would give up a kidney to have him back, but come on, Olamide is the isssh. Ever since Eni Duro, he has never looked back.
2 albums to his name already. Madt freestyles. Sick punchlines. Great features and the whole package. Let's just kick aside our love for Da-Grin and be neutral on this.
I was a big fan. F#$k it, I AM a big fan of Da-Grin, I cried the day he died, I wondered who would pick up the torch of Yoruba rap. But alas! Outta nowhere, Olamide came along.
This is my take on the issue. I know this debate would not stop here, but this is my say.
On the scale of 1 to Olamide, I would give Da-Grin a 9. Thanks and God bless.
